History of Oshie Village

Fon And His Wife

 Origins and Migration
Oshie traces its lineage to one of the sons of Tembekah and Akumakah from Tadkon (now Wumugì in Batibo). Oshie migrated through several locations—including Mbitòng (forest of bats), Zǎngtabi, Angòng, and Ajei in Ngie—before settling in its current location.

 Ancestry and Language
Tembekah was a descendant of Iyirikum, brother to Ungiekum; both sons of Kum, the Widikum tribe patriarch. The Oshie language is a tonal dialect within the Widikum linguistic family, related to Metta, Ngie, and Batibo.

Geography and Settlement
Oshie is located in eastern Njikwa Subdivision, Momo Division, serving as a gateway into Njikwa. The region features a diverse and undulating landscape. The population is organized into two main family lineages: Àndɛ̀g and Òyɛ̀mi.

Historical Sites and Strategic Settlement
The area was originally inhabited by the Konda and Mundum II peoples, who were displaced by the Oshie migrants. Early settlements like Oshumògwarì, Otyokob, Edɛ̀g, and Atogabikù were chosen for their defensive advantages.
